CoSA VFX and Superman & Lois

The CW’s Superman & Lois brings the iconic Superman character back to television with Tyler Hoechlin taking on the costume of the Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane as the family returns to Clark Kent’s home town of Smallville. Unlike a series like Smallville which took place in the past, this series takes place in a later period of Superman’s life, as he and Lois are raising two teenagers – at least one of whom may have powers of his own.

The series has already been noted for its high-quality production values and we were happy to be a part of the visual effects for the show’s March 24 episode, “The Best of Smallville.”

CoSA VFX was brought on to the show by longtime collaborator Matthew Gore, the show’s Visual Effects Producer. Having worked with us several times before, Matt came to us for a pivotal fire sequence knowing that we were capable of delivering fantastic fire effects from projects like Hulu’s Helstrom and ABC’s Station 19.

Our studio has a history of working on comic book-inspired series such as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Swamp Thing, Runaways, the aforementioned Helstrom, Pennyworth, and the Emmy-winning Gotham – it is a realm that our artists and supervisors enjoy, being able to create situations that can be iconic and otherworldly. Superman & Lois is a show that doesn’t just have an iconic character – it has what might be THE most iconic character in superhero history.

“It’s a good show, and it’s even better when you can work on something and have a good time doing it,” CoSA VFX Supervisor and Partner Tom Mahoney says of the experience, adding that it has always been great to be a part of the DC Universe, and that we would love to work on more Superman & Lois again in the future.
