Pennyworth Returns Sunday, March 7

The wait is almost over as Pennyworth returns to EPIX for the rest of Season 2 starting this Sunday night, March 7. To share our own hype for the show’s return, we want to talk about one of the biggest things we’ve built for Season 2 – the headquarters of the fascist Raven organization.

The producers of Pennyworth wanted Raven Headquarters to appear as a tribute to brutalist architecture. With this in mind, production designer Mark Scruton created a number of designs that we used as reference for building the CG structure – incorporating many hallmarks of brutalism to make it an imposing building in the middle of the countryside. You can see our #VFXbyCoSA breakdown of this featured shot below.

Like the first season, the visual effects of Pennyworth Season 2 features a number of environments and digital matte paintings, and has even brought in a huge house explosion! Season 2, however, has gone in new directions as far as tone and the way it looks. “The second season had us rethinking a lot of the approaches to the visual effects for the show,” CoSA VFX Supervisor Tom Mahoney says. “It’s certainly an exciting ride.”

European audiences are now also available to watch Pennyworth Season 2 as the new season recently premiered on the streaming platform STARZPLAY. Don’t miss this next chapter of stories set in the Batman universe.
