Station 19 Season 4 Premieres

CoSA VFX is very excited to have been working on Station 19 which started its fourth season November 12 on ABC. The new season’s opening episode showed how the series’ fictional world was going through the same situations as our real world. “Nothing Seems The Same” was the first episode produced during the time of COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic restrictions, which meant that extra caution had to be taken both on set and while creating visual effects for the show.

Due to that, CoSA VFX and the series production had to implement mitigation protocols which changed our usual processes. For example, location scouting is now done remotely because the number of crew members allowed on set is limited. Also, our team members have to be regularly tested for COVID when coming to the set.

For Station 19 Season 4, the production opted for more green screen visual effects to maintain social distancing. Additionally, there are more on-screen burn-ins for Zoom calls because the show takes place during our present pandemic, so the characters of the series will be communicating remotely for safety just like we are in the “real world.”

Here at CoSA VFX, we have been able to create a remote workflow, allowing our artists to work through secure connections which can be beneficial for more than just creating visual effects. It also allows our team members the flexibility to be closer to their families during these crucial times. This has added benefits as well: If a client has an emergency situation, our team can quickly and easily solve the problem. There is hope that this kind of remote work could benefit our VFX community after the pandemic, with remote work opening the pool to talented artists regardless of their location.

The season premiere of Station 19 is now available on Hulu and On Demand. The series airs Thursdays on the ABC television network. You can take a look at our past work on the series below.
