Pennyworth Season 2 Premieres Sunday, December 13

The long-awaited second season of the EPIX HD streaming and television series Pennyworth begins airing Sunday, December 13, 2020. CoSA VFX is proud to be the main visual effects vendor for the series, picking up from working with many of the same producers on the award-winning Gotham. Like Gotham, Pennyworth has its ties to the Batman universe, focusing on Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth during his younger days in a very different London. The series stars Jack Bannon in the title role.

Pennyworth Season 2 takes the series in exciting new directions that promise to be even grander in scope in scale. Likewise, the Pennyworth “universe” expands with new locations and new key characters.

The new season has a “life during wartime” feel to it, with a look that is very reminiscent of The Blitz (the German bombing campaign against the U.K.) during World War II. According to visual effects supervisor Nick Lund-Ulrich, CoSA artists looked at references from that era to capture the look of that historical period. There is a lot more to the imagery than the aftermath of war, however – CoSA has also been tasked with creating beautiful environments which juxtapose idyllic imagery with brutalist architecture that represents the regime that has taken over London. There are sides at war — and it’s up to Alfred Pennyworth to figure out what side he is on.

Being set in an alternative version of the 1960s, Pennyworth has a stylized look that is all its own. It’s a fictional yet very realistic world, and CoSA VFX is looking forward to the audience seeing our work on this new season.

Take a look at our visual effects highlights from Pennyworth Season 1 below.
